Sunday Funnies – Insurance Execs

I know this is old, and was specific to a certain conversation that the country was having at the time. I’m just in a very annoyed at insurance BS right now and we still don’t have a public option. So here is a short little video talking about who the real victims are in any talk about health care reform.

Sunday Funnies – Roscoe’s Rug Emporium

Back when I lived in Seattle we had a sketch comedy show that came on the half hour before SNL. It was great local comedy and many of the jokes just aren’t funny to people outside of the Seattle area. However, some sketches seem to be funny regardless of locale.  The following videos regarding Roscoe’s Rug Emporium are two that always come to mind when I see furniture stores “Going out of Business.”

Watch and enjoy!

Legend of Zelda redux

In the past I have asked you to watch the guild. Mostly because it is a fun web show and partly because it has Felicia Day (also a good reason to watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog). Those same two reasons, and because Felicia day mentioned it on Facebook, had me check out the Legend of Neil.

The name itself didn’t tell me anything about the show. Immediately upon visiting the show’s site though told me all I needed to know. The Legend of Neil is a show loosely based on the original Legend of Zelda. A game many people of my generation look upon fondly. In Game Informer magazine’s 200th edition they listed the the top 200 games of all time and Legend of Zelda came in at number 1.

Kill Link!

The Legend of Neil twists these happy memories a bit. Mostly by loosely basing it of memories of the game rather than going back into the game for research. They then pervert by well thinking,”what would a drunk guy who got transported into the game because asphyxiated himself with the controller probably see in game?” Maybe Zelda is less caucasian than the games would have us believe. Perhaps the fairy’s are a bit frisky.

Did I mention that the fairy is played by Felicia Day? It’s not a role I would expect to see her in but according to Sandeep Parikh ( the Guild’s Zaboo ) this is the type of improv she does all the time. In fact the first episode I watched was The Legend of Neil’s musical episode where a spoof of “My Favorite Things” gets a little uncomfortable for a more normal elf.

The funniest line comes in early when Felicia the Fairy says, “Oh, i don’t know. I’m not really into online musicals”.  Nice.

I’ve now watched the whole 2 seasons of Neil and am hoping for a season 3. Have you seen Legend of Neil? What were your favorite parts? There are lots of other classic video game shows floating around the web, what do you like.  All I can say is this made me want to play Legend of Zelda again and now my 6 year old is learning about games through one of the games I grew up with. Sweet.

Scam School – Just Another Magic Monday

I have been watching Scam School ( with Brian Brushwood ) for a while now. I found the show while looking for video podcasts that I might find enjoying before I even decided to become a magician. This show is one of the reasons I thought I might be able to do magic. Why? It tipped some magical, and not so magical, methods in a very professional way. I started to see that it was possible to do magic and, if I went to bars often, get free drinks using some of the methods that lie within.

Before I go too much further, Scam School is not a show teaching you how to do magic.  According to the intro it is, “The only show dedicated to social engineering at the bar and on the street.” However, Brian Brushwood is a magician and a great entertainer. The following clip is an episode of Scam School that deviated from its normal format to show Brian’s performance at SXSW.

Scam school is great for magician’s to watch because of its perspective. There is a movement of bizarre magic out there and Brian Brushwood is one of the people at the forefront. For non-magician’s it is great to watch for its edutainment value. It is very entertaining, and you get to see a cool thing to do at a bar or just hanging out with your friends. For instance, check out this episode on “The Static Shot.”

In the end though, the show is called Scam School and it presents itself as thus. Even though the homework is usually to watch movies like “The Sting” or buy domain names and do a domain smack on someone. All in all I recommend this show to all lovers of magic ( and bar scams :) ).

Just Another Magic Monday:Larry Wilmore and The Race Card

[ad#Ellusionist]I don’t watch The Daily Show live. I usually watch it the next day on Hulu. However, last Tuesday they had a bit of magic on the show. I didn’t catch it on Hulu, instead I caught it during the 3 minutes it takes to heat up a lean pocket( 2 minutes to cook, 1 minute to cool ). As usual during work meal breaks, I turned on the microwave then turned on the TV to see what’s funny on Comedy Central.  I’ve been working so much with cards lately that when I saw Larry do a thumb fan I was so excited.  In the end I think I let the lean pocket cool for 2 or more minutes.

Serious Issue + Humor is good but magic makes it better :)

Friday ( French ) Humor – Florence Foresti

I remember seeing this video quite a while ago and meant to put it in a Friday Humor post. It’s in French but with English subtitles. Given at least one of the jokes in this routine, that fact is funny. However, the punchline to this routine is a beautiful callback to the very beginning of the routine.

The follow up routine J’aime pas les filles ( without subtitles ).

Watch The Guild

No really, watch The Guild.  It is a great short episode web show that is about to start its 3rd season.  If you are into MMOs, know someone who is or enjoy watching Felicia Day then this is a great show to watch.  For a little taste of the humor ( which may be best for those who are already fans ), here is a video for you.

And, if you are now interested in watching the series from the beginning:
